Professional Development
Professional Development refers to skills and knowledge attained for both personal development and career advancement. There are many different events I can attend that will help brighten my future for teaching. Events are a great way for me to become a great teacher because they could change my perspective on teaching they could teach me new and better was to manage my classroom, Show me what grade level I'm most interested in, and also show me the best way to handle the different age groups. Learning all this can be a great deal of help for me in my upcoming future, and I can’t wait to benfit from any event that is in my future.
Future Teachers Conference

“Never make a punishment that you’re not willing to go through with,” said Tim Garcia, a speaker and a new teacher. This conference was a very inspiring and eye opening experience for me. There was a bunch of different sessions to choose from; it was almost over whelming. I was able to attend three different sessions, but the best and most eye opening one had to be “What’s your first year of teaching really like?” It was amazing! There really isn’t any other word I could use to describe that session. There were three new teachers who talked to us about what our first year might be like, and it was so inspiring. The quote I put at the top of the page tied in with a story that Mr. Garcia told us about how he told a student in his class that he had a parent teacher conference, and he needed to tell his mom and be at the school by five or else he would show up to his house and talk with his mom. Well I’m sure you could guess what happened, and Mr. Garcia ended up going to the student’s house and talking with his mom. Mr. Garcia told us he never had a problem with that student again. He told us that we should “Never make a punishment that you’re not willing to go through with.” That to me is very important in your first year of teaching because if your students don’t take you seriously then they’re going to walk all over you. Attending this conference and being able to go to this session really gave me a better understand of what my first year of teaching might be like, and I’m thankful for those three speakers who give me the knowledge of a better understanding of what I will be up against in my future of teaching.

Turning your back on gumbo? In the beginning of his speech he talked about living with his friends. There was ten guys all living in one house he started off by telling us about how one of his friends cooked a pot of gumbo, and left it on the stove for a couple of days just sitting there. He said after a few days of the gumbo just sitting on the stove, it started to smell and get really gross. He also said that one day when he came home from work his other roommate was cooking on the stove, but just used the other side and just left the gumbo. How the story of gumbo was related to what he had to say was that we can’t turn are backs on racism. You can’t just let it sit there and wait for someone else to do something about racism. If you want something done you might as well just do it yourself. I felt like what he had to say was all good, and I know I will use this information in many different ways. I can use thins information when I become a teacher in many ways, but the one way I can see me using it the most would be stand up for others and even through you see something wrong doesn’t mean you should just let it happen.
